ENS Labs and Dentity Bring Real-World Identities On-Chain

In a groundbreaking move, ENS Labs and Dentity have teamed up to allow users to securely link their real-world identities with their on-chain ENS identities. This integration marks a significant step forward in bridging the gap between off-chain and on-chain identities, enabling users to own a verified identity that can be used across various Web3 applications.

Through this collaboration, ENS users can now define the scope of information they wish to share publicly, while maintaining complete control over their Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Dentity users, on the other hand, can link their identity credentials to their ENS domain using the newly created integration pathway.

"Real-world identity is the unlock for blockchain beyond crypto, and this collaboration signifies a leap forward in making this a reality," said Khori Whittaker, Executive Director of ENS Labs. "Together with Dentity, ENS is broadening the capabilities of Web3 naming, making on-chain identities real and usable across various applications."

The integration comes at a crucial time as government bodies worldwide are working to implement mandatory KYC/AML compliance for decentralized financial technology projects. By linking real-world identities with on-chain personas, Web3 users can access real-world services without compromising on decentralization.

"The next billion blockchain users won't be crypto natives, and likely they won't even know they're on-chain," said Jeffrey Schwartz, Founder, and CEO of Dentity. "They will be using various services that require real-world identity verification, like accessing educational credentials, professional licenses, and health care records."

ENSv2, the upcoming upgrade to the Ethereum Name Service, is set to revolutionize the way users interact with decentralized applications (dApps) and usher in a new era for ENS domains. The upgrade will introduce a hierarchical registry system, improved security, and multi-chain interoperability, further enhancing the user experience and expanding the reach of ENS domains.

As the blockchain ecosystem continues to evolve, the integration of real-world identities with on-chain personas represents a significant milestone in the journey towards a more inclusive and accessible Web3 landscape.
