This expansion marks a shift from traditional stock market indexes to the world of crypto, responding to growing demand for accurate, data-driven insights.
New Crypto Indexes Powered by SonarX
FTSE Russell has partnered with SonarX, a blockchain data provider, to create fundamentally weighted crypto indexes. Unlike traditional market-cap-based indexes, these new tools focus on on-chain metrics and market data.
The goal is to give investors a clearer view of a digital asset’s value beyond market prices. Kristen Mierzwa, FTSE Russell’s head of digital assets, noted that the partnership will allow the company to better serve its institutional clients.
Institutional Adoption Drives Crypto Growth
SonarX’s reliable data will help power these new crypto indexes, providing vital insights into the fast-moving crypto market. The push into crypto follows a broader trend of increasing institutional interest in digital assets.
In 2022, Bloomberg Terminal added over 50 digital assets. FTSE Russell also partnered with Grayscale in 2023 to launch an index series covering cryptocurrencies and smart contract platforms. 2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for cryptocurrency.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs alone have attracted over $120 billion in assets within a year. As crypto adoption grows, FTSE Russell’s move into the space positions the company to meet rising demand from institutional investors.
